Ashok Pandit: Shooting

Ashok Pandit represented India in the sport of shooting. He is the first Indian to win a shooting gold at the Commonwealth Games. The Government of India honoured him with the Arjuna Award in 1985. He has won around 300 National medals in his decades long career. In 2002, he once again became a National Champion after a gap of 10 years.

International Career: Highlights

  • In 1982, he won a bronze in the Centre-Fire Pistol pairs event at the Commonwealth Games.
  • At the 1990 Commonwealth Games he bagged a gold, India’s first gold in shooting, in the Centre-Fire Pistol event. He also won a bronze in the pairs event at these Games.
  • He then went on to win gold at both 1994 and 1998 Commonwealth Games in the Centre-Fire Pistol Pairs event.
  • He has won a bronze medal twice at the Asian Games that is in the year 1994 and 1998, both in the 25m center-fire pistol team event.
  • He also bagged a gold medal at the 2005 Commonwealth Shooting Championships,2009 SAF Championships and 2011 International Shooting Championships.
